Has someone recently lent you a helping hand? Are there people in your life who you appreciate, but you haven’t told them lately? Whether a family member stuck by your side in a time of need, or you just enjoy someone’s positive attitude, there’s almost always a reason to say thank you. Sometimes the words just don’t do someone’s actions justice. When you’re really grateful, it’s important to go out of your way to show people just how much you value them and all they do for you. Here are three thoughtful ways to say thank you:
1. Send thank you cards
A handwritten note takes time and effort, making it a great way to demonstrate true appreciation. Remember, thank you notes don’t have to be limited to post-celebration etiquette for weddings and big milestones. They can also be a way to show gratitude for even the small things.
Consider writing a thank you note to a long-time friend. In your message, include why you’re thankful to have him or her in your life. It’s not only a nice gesture, but a handwritten note can help strengthen your friendship, especially if you don’t always have the time to get together.
When it comes to saying thanks for a gift, make it more personal with a custom photo card. According to Everyday Health, Mary Mitchell, author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Etiquette,” advises to take picture wearing the present if it’s a clothing item, for example. Or, if you’re sending thank-you notes for your child’s birthday, use a picture from the party as the cover of the card.
2. Bake sweet treats
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as biting into a warm, gooey cookie. Give that same indulgence to someone who has helped you out by baking sweet treats for him or her. Homemade goodies aren’t just delicious – they take time to make. So, whether you whip together their favorite flavor of cupcakes or go with the reliable chocolate chip cookies, you’ll have a great way to say thanks.
3. Return the favor
Did your neighbor watch your pet while you were out of town? Maybe your friend offered to babysit the kids while you and your spouse went out on a date night. Return the favor to show your appreciation. Make sure whoever helped you out knows they can come to you when they are in need, too.
Saying thank you is important for both showing your appreciation and building relationships. Take time to demonstrate your gratitude in a creative way.
