Facebook and email have become two popular platforms for inviting friends and family to certain events, like graduation parties, birthday bashes and even weddings. It’s not hard to see why – I mean, sending out an invite with the click of a button is much easier than taking the time to pick out the perfect stationery, address each envelope and send them out. However, despite their inconvenience, paper invitations are almost always a better bet, and let me tell you why:
Exudes exclusivity
Sending a personalized invitation to your guest can make them feel special because you took the time to invite them to what you consider to be a very important event. After all, it’s simple to invite 200 people to something with the click of a mouse, but with handwritten invitations, you have to be a bit more selective in who you ask to attend your event. Therefore, that addressed invitation comes with a certain air of exclusivity. And who doesn’t want to feel important and included?
Puts effort on display
The convenience of an email comes with a more casual tone than a thought-out paper invitation. Receiving a paper invite in the mail really shows how much effort the host put into planning the event. They had to pick out the perfect stationery, choose the typeface, and go through their address book and handwrite each address. The effort required for the process can send a message to invitees that the as an event needs a more urgent and prompt response than an email. And when people feel more obligated to RSVP, you could end up with more prompt responses.
