When the holiday season rolls around, you're going to be getting more than a few holiday cards in the mail. Instead of just piling them up on your kitchen counters or shoving them into a drawer, consider putting them on display to add a touch of festive decor to your home. Check out some of my favorite DIY ideas:
The door
Select a door in your home, and attach three different long strands of decorative ribbon vertically to the surface of the door. You can either staple or pin your holiday cards up and down the ribbon so the festive greetings can be seen by all.
Branch arrangement
Pick out a few twigs from your backyard and place them in a clear vase, jar or pitcher. Then take your holiday cards and punch holes into the top of them. String ribbon through the holes of the cards and tie them onto the twigs to create a tree full of holiday wishes.
Vintage ladder
Take that old ladder you have lying around and give it a fresh coat of red, green or metallic paint to set the tone for the holidays. You can then display your cards on each rung of the latter by opening them up so the crease of the card rests on the rung.
Christmas tree
If you have extra space on your Christmas tree, decorate the branches by setting various holiday cards on them. When the season is over, save your favorites for next year's tree, or transform leftover holiday cards into something completely new and different.
Homemade memo board
Create a display of holiday cards above your home office desk by making your own memo board. Simply choose your favorite festive fabric from the craft store, then staple batting and the fabric to a corkboard. Next, attach ribbon in a lattice pattern across the board using colorful thumbtacks. The holiday cards can easily slip underneath the ribbons for a collage of festive notes.
