It’s finally that magical time of year when eating bags of candy is acceptable and adults can comfortably don costumes for a good time. Yes, I’m talking about Halloween. You might think it’s still a little early to be discussing this holiday, but when it comes to preparing for a party, it’s best to start in advance. So, here are a few tips for hosting a thrilling Halloween bash:

Halloween invitations
Now is the time to start looking at party invitations and choosing your design. Don’t hold back on the card decorations, either. Halloween is all about magic and mystery so create that feeling with your invitations to get people excited for your party. You’ll want to get these invites out in the next couple of weeks so people can mark the event on their calendars.

Pro tip: If you’re expecting a lot of people, make a note about parking at the bottom of the card. Ask your neighbors if you can use their driveways or a nearby business if the parking lot is free so your guests don’t get ticketed while attending your bash.

Sweet treats
You’ll probably want to have your party start shortly after dinner. This way, you don’t have to provide a whole meal. Instead, you can make some creative snacks and beverages.

Get the food into the Halloween spirit, as well, by creating spooktacular finger food and creepy drinks. For instance, if you need ice, find some Halloween themed ice trays to create different shapes and creatures, or if you have cupcakes, use the frosting to make a little monster on top. The more creative the better!

Decorations
Your Halloween party would not be complete without the proper decorations. It’s important that you get the atmosphere right in each room so your guests will enjoy dancing and indulging in the food you’ve made. For instance, set the mood by throwing some thin pieces of fabric over the lamps in the dancing room. This can create a pink or bluish hue in the space. You could also drape fake cobwebs over the shade or hang string lights around the ceiling.

Adorn flat spaces with interesting decor, like a creepy vase or a jar with a head inside it. If you’re going to decorate the walls with fake cobwebs, make sure you don’t go overboard. A few wispy strands will enhance the space without making it look too gaudy.

Furniture arrangements
Along with decorating the rooms your guests will be hanging out in, rearrange the furniture. You don’t want people to be squeezing between the couch and an end table to get out to the kitchen. Narrow pathways are just an accident waiting to happen, so push items up against the wall so you have a large enough space for dancing, and set extra items out of the way in a room that’s not being used.

Music playlists
Think about the music you want to play in advance and create a playlist. Keep the music lively and upbeat so energy levels will stay high. You don’t want a random track because a slow song might come on or you could reach the end of the album and have to awkwardly search for other music options. Instead, plan ahead, and avoid these party disruptions with a playlist.

Activity options
Most of the time, a space for dancing and socializing is enough for a party, but if you want to spice up your event, have a couple of other activities available. For instance, you could go with traditional Halloween games like bobbing for apples and a costume contest. If you do these, make sure you have prizes on hand for the winners.

However, if you’re looking for something that will really make your Halloween party stand out from the rest, hire a tarot card reader. Guests will be fascinated by what the psychic has to say, and it will add an extra level of anticipation and magic to the festivities.

So, when you’re planning your Halloween bash, make sure you keep these ideas in mind so your event is a success!
