Different ways to decorate your Christmas tree

Everyone has their own special way to decorate their Christmas tree. In my family, we fill our tree with different ornaments that we’ve all collected throughout the years. It turns our tree into somewhat of a time capsule – each ornament has a special story behind it and it’s fun to recall those memories each time we pull them out at the beginning of the holiday season. However, there are a variety of ways you can decorate your Christmas tree, so why not switch it up this year? Choose from any of these festive styles that matches your family’s personality and your home’s decor:

Family photos
If you want to keep the focus of your holiday on family and friends, why not fill your tree with photos of them? Choose your favorite photos of your loved ones, and print them out in a vintage sepia tone. Use glue or double-sided tape to attach the pictures to plain white paper shipping tags. Punch a hole in the top of the tag and attach string to hang the photos from your tree’s branches. Keep the rest of the tree simple with white stringed lights to bring the focus to your loved ones. Your tree will be a great conversation starter when you have friends over.

Holiday cards
Put all of the holiday cards you get in the mail to good use by hanging them on your tree! You can punch a hole into the top corner of the cards and hang them using twine, wire or string. Another option would be to intersperse the cards with your other Christmas ornaments. Simply tuck the cards in between branches to put them on display.

All-white
During the Christmas season, you see a whole lot of red and green. But what about embracing a neutral hue this year? Opt for a retro white-on-white tree to set a beautiful winter scene in your interior. You can get an all-white artificial tree and decorate it with all neutral-toned ornaments in white, off-white and silver hues. Drape white stringed lights around your tree to illuminate the display. If you’re not quite sure if you want an all-white tree in your living room, you can try out the trend by placing a miniature white tree in your entryway.

Bold color
On the other hand, filling your Christmas tree with bold colors like bright blues, metallics like silver and gold, deep greens and purples can create a shimmering statement in your home. Use ornaments of all different hues and try wrapping colorful ribbon around your branches in addition to holiday lights.

Shimmering gold
The holidays are the perfect time to take advantage of all things shimmering and sparkly. Fill your tree with gold trimmings, from bulbs and figurines to ribbon and stars. If you want even more shine, you can lie all of your ornaments down on some newspaper and cover them with a layer of gold glitter spray paint. Finish off the look with a golden-colored tree skirt.

Plaid
Winter is the time of year to bring all of your plaid scarves, sweaters and shirts out of storage, so why not decorate your Christmas tree along the same lines? You can drape plaid ribbon all around the tree and complement it with presents wrapped in plaid paper underneath. Choose two to three colors found in the plaid ribbon and search for solid ornaments in those same colors to create a cohesive look.

Patriotic
Deck out your Christmas tree with red, white and blue for a truly patriotic focal point in your home. Search for glass ornaments in a variety of red, white and blue shades, and don’t forget to add plenty of stars to your tree, of course.
