I’ve just heard that the first mass-produced Christmas card is on display not far from the CardsDirect corporate offices! Part of the Bridwell Library collection housed at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas, the card dates back more than 160 years.
Published in 1843, the card was controversial in Victorian English society in that it featured a child sipping from a glass of wine. A previous article on The History of Corporate Christmas Cards contains more information about this first greeting.
If you’re in the DFW area, check it out!
