Scattered in Pueblo Colorado’s letter brought up an excellent idea, that I thought deserved a bit more attention with the holiday season almost upon us: office Christmas card parties! Everyone knows it can be a major drag to sit and hand-sign every single card your company sends out, and nobody wants to get stuck doing it, especially if you’ve got a long mailing list. Not to mention, any single person might suffer a brain implosion trying to think of a charming one-line inscription to write in every single card! Solution? The office Christmas card party.
Set aside an afternoon sometime shortly after (or even before) Thanksgiving, order in some sandwiches or snack trays, set up a punch bowl or cooler full of sodas and juices, and have everyone in the office sit around and fill out Christmas cards together. Misery shared is misery lessened, after all … and having a whole group of people taking a bit of time to inscribe and sign all the cards will not only make it all go a lot faster, but will save one unlucky person the burden of having to do it all themselves.
Who knows, with a little imagination, it could even become an anticipated event for your company every year. Perhaps a raffle prize could be offered, with everyone who attends getting an entry … an extra day of vacation pay, or a gift certificate to a popular local restaurant might be good prizes. Depending on health codes in your region, you could make it a themed potluck party, where everyone signs up to bring a favorite holiday side-dish in for the afternoon. Give it a bit of thought, and you could easily turn what used to be an annual burden into an annual event!
