Dear Ms. Cards Direct-
Our company specializes in selling ‘environmentally friendly’ products, and it seems like it would be a little hypocritical of us to waste a load of paper at holiday time sending out greeting cards. I understand how important it can be for marketing, but I’m not very comfortable with the idea … what do you suggest?
Well Green, I have one easy answer for you right off the top of my head: Send recycled greeting cards! CardsDirect actually has a very nice selection of recycled greeting cards available, because cards printed on recycled paper is a very frequently requested product these days. No need to be a Scrooge on behalf of Mother Earth anymore!
Not only are recycled Christmas cards a good idea environmentally, they can actually even be an extra PR boost to your company, especially if your focus is on environmentally aware products. People do not necessarily think of or expect recycled holiday cards, so when they see that your cards are recycled, it will make an even more memorable and positive impression on the recipients!
You can further “green” your CardsDirect holiday greeting cards by taking advantage of one of the free personalization options offered with every card order: When you specify your four free lines of personalization, you can use the space to print a “top three greeting cards recycling tips” featurette in every card, or write a little rhyme asking your recipients to recycle the card again after the holidays.
While Ms. Cards Direct is no poet, I can help with the three recycling ideas:
- Donate the cards to a child care center or other children’s group. Greeting cards are great collage material!
- Shred the cards and add them to your compost, or use them to make handmade recycled paper.
- Turn the front artwork from your favorite cards into hanging holiday decorations for next year.
