When we were kids, we received party favors like pencils, candy, colorful plastic jewelry or stickers. Now that we’re older, we still get party favors, but thankfully they have evolved. The next time you host a party or a get-together, consider sending your guests home with any of these simple DIY party favors that they’ll actually use:
Give everyone a taste of your homemade jam by transferring a fresh batch into miniature mason jars and tying a bit of vintage-printed fabric to the top of the jar with some twine. You can even attach a small note identifying what flavor the jam is.
Don’t have a homemade jam recipe? Swap out the jam for some freshly ground coffee or your favorite coffee beans. Your guests will surely be appreciative of some new java to try out at home. You can also include mixes for hot chocolate, teas, lattes, mochas, etc., which will be perfect once fall rounds the corner.
Tip: Create your own labels for the jars using a simple strip of paper and some tape. You can also cover the jars with chalkboard paint and use chalk to label them.
Chances are that by the end of the party, one or more of your guests will have asked for the recipe for your delicious appetizers, dishes, desserts, etc. Save yourself the trouble of having to scribble them down by creating adorable recipe books for everyone.
To make them, you can head to the dollar store to purchase miniature notebooks, which are the perfect size for writing down recipes. If you don’t like the way the notebooks look, you can cover them with some decorative scrapbook paper or washi tape, and tie a colorful ribbon around them. Feel free to use a custom embosser to add a personalized touch to the recipe books. This way, everyone will remember who the recipes came from.
Greenery makes the perfect addition to any home decor. Group together small potted plants of moss, succulents or your favorite flowers to create a centerpiece for your party tables. When the event comes to a close, let your guests know they can take one of the potted plants home for themselves. This way, you have less cleanup, and your visitors will be pleased.
You spend all that time making dessert for your party, so why let it go to waste? Have your guests take home their favorite sweets by offering to-go boxes in the shape of the dessert. For instance, you can create triangular shaped boxes so your guests’ pie slices fit perfectly. Simply trace the shape onto cardstock, score the paper along the dotted lines, fold and secure with double-sided tape. Line the boxes with parchment paper so the sweets don’t stick, and tie a ribbon around the box with a note explaining what’s inside.
Tip: Try covering the cardstock with some decorative washi tape. You can arrange the tape in single strips or use it to cover the entire box. Either way, washi tape is a simple way to add some personality to your party favors.
Nail polish set
For events like bridal and wedding showers, your female guests will love this favor idea: Purchase your favorite color nail polish and tie the bottle around an emery board of the same color using twine. It’s a simple gift, but it’s one that your guests will no doubt use.
Tip: If you’re handing out this gift at your bachelorette or bridal shower, give your girls the color polish you would like them to wear on your big day.
