Target Your CustomersThere is only so much time in a day, no matter how much you wish some days were shorter and others longer. So, use your time to your best advantage. In business, focus on the tasks and activities that will matter most. In sales and marketing, know your core audience and target them rather than waste time trying to pull in business from everywhere.

Try a multi-level approach. Don’t just place a cold call or send one direct mail piece; follow-up. After a successful meeting or phone conference, send follow-up Thank You Cards as a show of appreciation and to keep your name and your company name in front of the customer.
Thank You Cards
By adding a personal touch you are sure to become a member of their business family and top of mind whenever your goods or services are needed!

There is currently a commercial on tv that shows people engaged in random acts of kindness. Not big deals, just little things like giving a child their dropped toy or holding an elevator door. These simple gestures bring smiles all around and just brighten everyone’s day. So, how about considering this workplace suggestion—
Thank You Card Assortment
Show a little appreciation for kindnesses done in the workplace by keeping a supply of Thank You Cards on hand. When someone goes above and beyond expectations, leave a signed card on their desk as a show of appreciation. Maybe your HR person could keep plenty available for employees to use when the need arises.

Birthday cards and Anniversary cards are great in the workplace but wouldn’t an unexpected Thank You card be an added incentive to do great things?! I bet this sort of act of kindness would be contagious and a sure motivator to encourage team players. And I bet CardsDirect.com has the perfect Thank You Card Assortment Pack all ready and waiting for you!
Thank You Cards
Maybe a co-worker helped you with a major report or someone took it upon themselves to clean out the break room fridge (a yucky smelly job no one wants to tackle), or maybe you just value an employee’s extra effort. A Thank You Card would make a world of difference and I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t proudly displayed! What do you think? Why not try it for a few weeks and see what happens!

Computer GreetingsAccording to a recent survey, 63% of Americans feel that sending a greeting via Facebook or Twitter is inappropriate with 19% believing it is downright tacky! There is simply nothing like a traditional greeting card to surprise someone on their birthday or anniversary or other special occasion. I remember when ecards first came on the scene. It was nice to be remembered but when receiving greeting cards I take into account the effort behind the thoughtfulness and an ecard just doesn’t take all that much effort.

Greeting cards are often kept as treasured memories and I have yet to knowingly keep an ecard or Facebook “wall” wish. 37% of Americans think that sending a thank you note through a social network is inappropriate. Given that a thank you is meant to send appreciation, isn’t it worth the effort to hand write a short note on lovely Thank You Cards and put a stamp on them or hand deliver them?
Thank You Cards
The next time you want to reach out to someone, do it with style. Some may call greeting cards printed on paper, signed and delivered old-fashioned, but I call it personal. The effort you take is sure to be warmly received and returned in kind. Which do you prefer, paper or virtual?

Dallas Cowboys Snuggie
OK, so you aren’t particularly thrilled to have received a Dallas Cowboys themed Snuggie from Aunt Betty this Christmas. But, you do need to say thank you, if only because she took the time and effort to make the purchase and wrap it up and present it to you.

No doubt many of us will be gifted with presents that will be returned the day after, but remember to be gracious in your acceptance. Hand written Thank You Cards sent as a follow-up will show you know a bit about proper etiquette.

‘Tis the season to express thanks for family, friends and all of the good things you have in life, even if you would have rather received a Snuggie for your dog this year!

If you can make the Guinness Book of World Records for sales, you must know something about how to do it! Joe Girard sold cars but his suggestions for sales success can work for just about anything. I’ve customized them here to include selling product and services and yourself too at a job interview!

Positive Attitude. Even if you have to pretend, act like everything is great. Surrounding yourself with upbeat people is also a good idea.
Positive Attitude
Organize. Make lists and keep track of everything. Know where you’ve been, where you are going and how you will get there by planning ahead. For a job interview, know all you can about the company you are applying to work for.

Work. Dig in and work, even when job searching! Even at a lunch break, find those who will help your cause.

No-Nos. Don’t be late, chew gum, smoke, tell dirty jokes, wear too much perfume or cologne, or leave your cell phone on.

Dress. Dress to impress but also to fit the occasion or position. If you’re selling to blue collar workers, don’t wear expensive clothes and too much jewelry.

Listen. Listening shows that you care. Listen more and talk less. But, if asked a direct question, be ready for a well thought out answer.

Smile. A smile is a great asset and makes others feel more comfortable around you.

Return messages. Return all calls, emails and any message just as soon as possible.

Tell the truth. Just one lie will label you a liar for life.

Don’t overcharge. Be fair and offer value. You should assume comparison shopping will be taking place.

Stand in front. Stand in front of your product. You are the service they are actually buying. In job interviews, make sure the focus is on you. Reposition yourself if there are distractions in the interviewer’s line of sight.
Lock up the sale
Lock up the sale. Ask for feedback. Ask if there are any unresolved questions. Reinforce their trust and leave on an upbeat.

Reward yourself. Treat yourself well and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.

And don’t forget to send Thank You Cards to those who interviewed you or Business Appreciation Cards to those who made a purchase!
Thank You Cards
Any other tips you’d like to add?

Greatest Car SalesmanForbes called him the consummate salesman. Fortune Magazine praised him in their article, “The Art of Selling”. Newsweek called him “something special”. He received the title of Greatest Car Salesman by the Guinness Book of World Records. Who is this sales legend? Joe Girard is his name. Joe sold automobiles. He sold big ticket items one at a time, selling 1,425 cars in his best year. How did he do it? One of his secret weapons was greeting cards!
Business Appreciation Thank You Cards
Joe sent out an average of 13 cards every year to each of his clients. He would send one card a month and holiday cards in December. He hired two assistants to help and remembered customers with birthday cards, anniversary cards and any celebratory occasion you can think of from Halloween to Groundhog Day.

He knew that business greeting cards inspired customer loyalty and proved that by keeping his name in front of his customers, they would be motivated to refer him to their friends as well as return when they needed another car.

Why not try it yourself and experience success just like Joe!

Graduation DayMy daughter’s high school graduation class had 1,200 graduates in it. It took 2 full hours for them all to march across the stage and receive their diplomas. This year there was a change in venue. Graduation was moved to the Dallas Convention Center and it was impossible to hold every family member and guest who might have wanted to attend the big event. And so, each graduate was allotted 6 tickets.

Frantic phone calls began the minute this plan was announced. There was a mad rush to secure extra tickets for aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends and everyone who wanted to come and join in the celebration. I’m told some students were even selling their tickets if they had extra ones on hand, but I can’t confirm that!

I was approached by many, asking if I had any extras. As it turned out, I did have extra tickets to give to those in need and was happy to accommodate them. What surprised me though was the lovely Thank You Card I received following graduation day from one of those I shared a ticket with. With out of town guests to entertain along with all the hoopla that goes with graduation, how this lovely lady managed to find the time to write and mail a thank you card for my unused ticket was a delightful surprise.
Thank You Card
Thank YOU, Andrea!

So folks, do you remember to send Thank You Cards when a nice gesture of appreciation is called for?
