This day holds special meaning in various parts of the world. In the U.S., tradition calls for dancing around a maypole tied with colorful ribbons and surprising people by leaving flowers at their doorsteps. Not having a maypole handy, or the funds for distant flower deliveries, I like to use this day as a reminder to remember friends and family with a surprise “Thinking of You” greeting card. I have many friends I send Christmas Cards to and like to remember them midway through the year as well, which makes May Day the perfect mailing date for such an expression. Sent for no particular reason, Thinking of You Cards are just opportunities to reconnect and surprise someone with a thoughtful gesture. This floral design printed on recycled paper is my choice this year. Maybe you might like to start such a tradition yourself! One way to begin is by participating in Earth Day itself. Look for activities in your community or plan one of your own. Perhaps your company can sponsor an event, or work with your human resources department to initiate a company-wide program. A simple and effective change would be to use Recycled Greeting Cards. Remember those special to you and your business with greeting cards printed on 100% recycled card stock that says you care about them and the environment. When it comes to caring about the planet we all live on, no effort is too small. Use April 22 as a start date to affect changes in your daily routine that will improve life for you and for those around you, now and forever. They are being sorted between those that go to charities for repurposing and those that will be sent to a recycling company for pulping. The post office is closed today for Presidents Day but tomorrow we’ll be sending out several box loads of great cards to St. Judes Ranch for Children for repurposing. I have to admit that I enjoy looking through the cards received. All the nice embossing and glittering on some of the beautiful cards make me miss the not so long ago holiday season. It is also fun to see where all the cards are coming from, and I can tell you, they are coming from everywhere! We’re not just talking holiday cards either. We’ve received birthday, sympathy, get well and just about every other category imaginable. We’ve received many boxes that included blank unused envelopes in various sizes and some with personalization printed on them. If you have any suggestions on how envelopes with the flaps removed can be repurposed, let me know as I’d love to share those ideas and send those partial envelopes on to someone who can make use of them. A big thanks to all those who have sent us your unused cards!
