Whether you’re hosting a cocktail party on your patio, getting married or having a birthday party, I’m betting that you want to put a bit of your personality into the event. There’s one crafting tool that many people are using to enhance everything from invitations to party decor: washi tape.
What is washi tape?
You’ve probably seen this colorful tape somewhere on Pinterest. The tape is made of paper – from the bark of trees in Japan, actually. The gampi tree, mitsumata shrub and the mulberry tree are all sources of washi tape. This crafting tool comes in a variety of colors, styles and patterns, which makes it popular for DIY-ing. Here are just a few ways that you can use washi tape to bring some personality and style to your event:
- Dress up birthday, wedding or party invitations with a swatch of washi tape. Choose colors that match the theme of your event, and use the bright tape as a border. You can also cut the tape into certain shapes (like stars, hearts or polka dots) that coordinate with your stationery.
- Turn clear plastic cups from boring to fun by wrapping a piece of washi tape around the top of the cup.
- Enhance your gift wrap for a birthday party by adorning the paper with strips of bright and beautiful washi tape.
- Clear white tiles (found at your local home improvement store) can be decorated with different colors and patterns of washi tape for fun DIY coasters. Try sticking the tape on diagonally or do a criss-cross pattern with strips of tape instead.
